Northeast Florida Scottish Games and Festival will present many different opportunities for you to sharpen your street shooting skills. The various Athletic, Bag and Pipe and Dance competitions will present colorful subjects in interesting activities throughout the day.

The athletics are different from what we usually see. There are men and women in contests to see how far or high they can throw heavy, progressing to very heavy things, all in kilts.

There will be demonstrations and exhibitions on various things Scottish. Food, water, Guinness and themed merchandise will be available for sale.

A Scottish musical evening will start at 6:00 PM.

Gear

The event will offer situations that call for lenses ranging from wide angle for street type shots to long telephoto for the athletic contests.

Zoom lenses in the 24 to 200 range would likely be most useful. Longer lenses, zoom or prime for athletic events are called for. Think Rodeo shots but with people.

Tripods, as of this writing are allowed and may be necessary for tele lenses depending on available light. Polarizers and ND filters could be used here.

Other Tips

Handicap parking is available with shuttle to main gate.

The activities areas are spread out so depending on what you want to see. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Most areas are in the open so sun protection, sunscreen and carried water are recommended.

Directions

Fair grounds are about one mile west of green Cove Springs on state road 16. Signs will direct to parking areas both general and handicap.
